Today was our first full day staying in Bukit Lawang. It's a change of pace from Batu Kapal. We had hoped for a lie in but the macaques had other ideas and were jumping on the roof early. Luckily we're only in this room for one night before moving up to a higher family space that hopefully has fewer monkey visitors in the early hours.

The village is spread over quite a long area and it takes a while to get from one end to the other on foot. The area we're staying in seems to have a few guest houses and restaurants and easy access to the river.

There are a lot of art outlets with local carvings and paintings. Most are of local wildlife and that's perhaps the main draw to this area.

We headed over to the local mini market - the Indomaret. It's a fair walk so we took a tuk tuk. Well, two to be exact. Again, this ended up feeling like Mario Kart with chickens and other random obstacles.

The food here is excellent and very reasonably priced - even considering that Bukit Lawang is more pricey than other less well known villages.

If you like a cat cafe, you'll like Bukit Lawang as every cafe seems to have a few resident cats. The ones we've met have been very friendly and chilled out.
