Today we went for our first animal monitoring walk. Batu Kapal has several rocky outcrops with native jungle plants. Orangutans travel from the wildlife reserve to the rocks to bring up their young.

We saw a mother and son orangutan eating in a tall tree. A short walk later we saw the alpha male orangutan and another male much closer - moving around in the trees next to us.

There are a few species of monkey locally and one group passed us several times during the day. At tone point we had monkeys on the roof and all around.

The back of our lodge was alive with bats at dawn and later at dusk too when we also saw fireflies.

We helped move some bamboo stems that will be used to make a fence for a plant nursery.
